About Trace

I was born, and mostly raised, in Colorado Springs, CO. At 18 years old I enlisted in the Marine Corps, infantry, and was stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC. After I got out I went to a couple of years of college, struggling for direction. We then moved to Safford, AZ, where I worked as a police officer for five years. I still had the military bug, so I joined the Army National Guard and attended training in Ft. Bragg, NC as a Special Forces Medic (18D). Soon after completing my training I got out of the military. I then worked eight years as a paramedic, first in Colorado Springs, then on Whidbey Island, WA. I have worked the last seven years bartending, part-time, in Seattle which leaves me lots of time to work around “The Farm.”

Late 2013 we moved from suburbia to “The Farm,” our homestead, on five acres, in a rural area near Eatonville, WA.

  2. Howdy. I’m an ex-Navy Corpsman and was attached to the USMC during my 4 year stint in the Navy. After discharge, became a Paramedic and worked EMS for over 30 years.

I’m building an extensive “cache” of supplies, including medical and minor surgical supplies. Would you know where I could purchase some meds for the kit? Like Lidocaine for injection, a broad-spectrum antibiotic, and some other basic necessity meds that may be needed in the upcoming months.

Thanks, hope to hear from you. I am writing to you because i see you have a connection with Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy.

    Thanks, Greg

    • Great to hear from you. Sounds like we hung out with some of the same type of people over the years…

You’re question is very valid and one I’ve struggled with myself. The antibiotics is relatively easy, at least acquiring a good range of broad spectrum ones: fish antibiotics (, this knowledge was spearheaded by Dr. Bones and I’ve verified it as much as I’ve been able to, and I feel confident they will work well (and I have added them to my preps, this month we’re adding more). Lidocaine is tougher, Dr. Bones recently posted about doing nerve blocks and in the comments was asked about veterinarian sources of lidocaine. At this point he’s not recommending vet sources, because they have extra ingredients added to them, but he’s currently researching them further. I’ll pass on whatever he/I find out. They’re something I’d really like to have in my preps also.

Also–thought I’m hypocritical on this one because I haven’t started it yet–is the medicinal herbs and essential oils category. Yep they take more time to learn, sure there’s not as much research done on them, yea there’s some kooks that use them – BUT they do work, and they are SUSTAINABLE. We’re planting some in the garden this year and I’m starting my learning process.

The antibiotics and natural remedies are both covered well in the Doom and Bloom book.
